Writing for Wellbeing
Use creative writing to feel better, build understanding, and connect with others
Writing for Wellbeing
Writing for Wellbeing is a creative, therapeutic approach that uses writing to support emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing.
I run workshops for groups, using simple, structured writing exercises to help participants explore feelings, reflect on experiences, and connect with themselves and others.
There’s no pressure to be “good” at writing. These sessions are open to everyone, regardless of experience or ability.
We might use journaling, descriptive writing, metaphor, short stories, poetry, or playful prompts. Everything is optional, and the focus is on expression, curiosity, and shared experience—not performance.
Participants often describe sessions as enjoyable, insightful, and uplifting. Many find that they grow in confidence, both in their writing and in themselves, and value the sense of connection that develops within the group.
Who is it for?
I offer Writing for Wellbeing sessions for a wide range of community groups, including:
Older adults (for example, at The Churn Project in Cirencester)
People affected by illness or cancer (including work with Charlie’s Community Support in Gloucester)
Those experiencing mental health challenges
New parents
People who are bereaved
Sessions are always adapted to suit the needs, pace, and preferences of each group.
How does it work?
I offer both one-off workshops and ongoing group sessions.
Groups typically work best with around 6–10 participants, though this is flexible. I’m happy to adapt sessions to ensure they are accessible; for example, supporting participants who may need a scribe, speak English as an additional language, or find concentration challenging.
I often work in partnership with organisations, where the group is already established. I’m very open to collaborating in this way, or exploring other formats depending on your needs.
If you have a group that might benefit from this approach, I’d be happy to discuss options with you.
“I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.”
